Surdna's Director of the Strong Local Economies Program, Kim Burnett, participated in a study tour organized by the German Marshall Fund last October to examine how regions in Germany were embracing clean energy as a means to revitalize their economies while reducing their carbon footprint.

The German Marshall Fund, in partnership with the Transatlantic Climate Bridge Initiative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, invited thirteen political and civic leaders from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina to participate in the briefings, panel discussions and site visits hosted by German energy policy experts, regional leaders, policy makers, planners and energy industry representatives.
